Map
 The BIS consists of
baseline datasets at 4 levels:

National
-
River-basin
-
DS-Division
-
GN-Division.
At each level, the datasets are:
-
Primary (e.g., satellites sensor data) or
-
Secondary (e.g., soil types, land-use pattern, drainage network, road network,
hydro-meteorological stations, population datasets etc).
All data are provided in 3 projection systems:
-
Geographic Latitude-Longitude,
-
Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM), and
-
Local Projection system (TM with Kandawala datum).
The BIS data are fundamental and can be considered as a starting point for any
project. Currently, in this pilot project, the baseline data are populated for
Ruhuna benchmark river basin and the DS- and GN-Divisions within the Ruhuna
basin.
